About Dave Kommel Photography

Dave Kommel attended his first drag race in 1966 at Great Lakes Dragway in Union Grove, Wisconsin (with a camera, of course) and the rest is history.  He spent most of the 1970's covering races in the western United States. 

In 1979, he and Richard Shute formed Auto Imagery and over the next 35 years, Dave and Richard covered well over 1,000 events including NHRA, IHRA, IDBA, AMA Prostar, NASCAR and more.

Now that Dave is "retired" from Auto Imagery, he has kept busy scanning his extensive cache of slides and negatives from the 1970's while continuing to shoot events that catch his fancy.

Lately, Dave has become fascinated with birds and we have added a gallery with wildlife and nature images that will be updated regularly.
